Teaching English Composition September 1987-June 1989 Department of English, University of Montana Taught the art and skill of expository writing to undergraduates for six terms, classes averaging twenty students. Developed all lesson plans, emphasizing writing as process through daily workshops and discussions. Environmental Education May 1984-June 1987 Keewaydin Foundation (Salisbury, VT); New York State Department of Environmental Education (Delmar, NY and Saranac Lake, NY); Massachusetts Audubon Society, Drumlin Farm (Lincoln, MA); Zion National Park (Springdale, UT) Explored the natural with people of all ages; led hikes, canoes trips, and backpacking trips; gave slide presentations and natural history talks; prepared and implemented all lesson plans. Freelance articles 1985-present Published in Conservationist, Ithaca Journal, Vermont Life, High Country News, Falcon, Montana Outdoors, and Initiations (French trans.). Interpretation Voices of the Land Trail, The Watershed Center (Bristol, VT) 2000 Designed interpretive trail and wrote text for interpretive brochure and signage. EDUCATION Master of Science in Environmental Studies graduated 1989 University of Montana Missoula, MT GPA 4.0 Concentration in creative non-fiction writing. Bachelor of Science in Biology graduated with honors 1985 Cornell University Ithaca, NY GPA 3.45 Concentration in Neurobiology and Behavior AWARDS Bertha Morton Scholarship 1988 Awarded to those University of Montana graduate students in the top five percent in academic performance, research, and creative activities. Erasmus Scholarship 1988 Awarded to students who show the ability and intention to use their studies to humanize and ennoble their own and others life goals.
