The green flag first waved here for world class racing in 1948, when man and machine used the village streets and hillsides for the race course. Over the years, the Glen hosted many major forms of motor sports, including the US Grand Prix, which gained Watkins Glen worldwide recognition. Using a self guided tour map, visitors in any season may retrace the route on foot or in their own car.

Today, Watkins Glen International hosts a full calendar of racing events on a world-class raceway, offering family camping and spectator services. The challenging track is located in a spectacular setting four miles from Watkins Glen and Montour Falls.

Thrill to the thunder in the Glen with six major racing weekends this year. The green flag drops in May on the IMSA Exxon World Sports Cars and is followed by the Busch Grand National race. Then there are the popular Glen US Nationals and the Bud-at-the-Glen races. In August, watch truck and modified racing. The season's finale is the US Vintage Grand Prix race — a community celebration of history and nostalgia!

Coming in 1998 — a world-class celebration. Return to the streets of the Glen for the fiftieth anniversary of the Watkins Glen Grand Prix.
